7 Heroes/Embark Beach Early Next Year
In answer to this question on his wiki feedback page

So is there any word on when we can expect the patch for full hero teams?

To answer the original question - the early part of next year. There's something pretty awesome going into that build in addition to the Hero / Embark Beach stuff along with some other improvements to the game. We'll probably be talking about it more as we get closer to it being released, for now the focus is on Wedding/Wintersday.

So we can all relax and enjoy the upcoming wedding and holiday festivities.

What a tease. Oh well. Holidays will give us plenty of stuff to do, and then they can hit us with it.
Wild speculation on the "something pretty awesome" can begin... nao.

I wouldn't expect too much. Maybe some some change to the way henchman work. I'd be already impressed if they can improve melee AI to a point where a tank doesn't run out of AoE after two seconds, or the melee heroes extending further from the group if set to "attack mode". I'd like to call out a target that is out of aggro and my warrior hero starts running up to it. AI formations(Charr mob style) or faster AoE flee would be handy to have as well, but maybe a little OP.

With 7 heroes, this would be expected, yes.

Hey atleast they didn't lie when they said it would be after the October update.
Anet, slow as over, but atleast they've given themselves enough time and a vague enough timewindow for people to not post "Is it there yet?" on these forums.
I'dd rather take: "We're incredibly slow" than "We're fast, but we keep delaying updates", so that's definatly an improvement from the "old" Anet, but it's still nowhere close to decent.

Nice! I hope that ANet actually manages to stick to their hoped-for schedule this time and that it doesn't turn into "the later part of next year", cos I'm really looking forward to both Embark Beach and 7 hero team builds.

NO! I don't want "something pretty awesome" in addition to the Hero update. I want the hero update as early as possible and you can add the rest of the shit you thought about later.

A: It is high unlikely that this would happen as long as the playerbase remains strong (which it is). I expect that it will be years before we even consider it further."
Is it a reversal of policy or is the game worse off than they are willing to admit. After years of people asking for this I highly doubt pressure from a survey is what tipped the balance.

Well this certainly seems to be the REASON for the update, i.e. they probably expect the GW1 pop to shrink significantly once GW2 is out, so embark beach and 7 heros will be NECESSARY for those still playing to viably enjoy the more high end areas.
On the other hand, if they don't get it out there early, based on their track record it might be seriously buggy, and by the time GW2 is out and folks are fleeing to the future, as it were, I sincerely doubt they'll have the impetus to fix any bugs that arise.
Early next year sounds good to me...if it actually happens.

See my post just now. It's got to be in anticipation of the mass exodus that will follow the release of GW2. If there are only a few thousand people left on GW at any given time at that point, they'll have a miserable time trying to find each other and party up, since those just looking to help out with something somewhere will need a central location to make themselves available (hence embark beach). Meanwhile, some trying certain areas may find that NO ONE online is interested in PuGging with them, either because the area is not very popular, or they're playing at a a weird hour, or whatever. And if that area happens to be a non-hench area like ToPK, the 7 hero team will be the ONLY option.
It's not such a stark reversal, and it's not a sign of some huge problem. It's an acknowledgment of a (pretty desirable, from their perspective, I imagine) inevitability.

As for the "something pretty awesome" that is being added in adition to the hero update, my money is on them adding the mechanic in HoM that lets us reserve character names in GW2.

Neither. It wasn't policy, it was just the idea of the previous lead of the team. Stumme took a survey and as part of his new lead is taking the opinion of the people instead of the previous leader. Seems fair to me.

judging by Anet's definition of "early" I'm going to expect this update to be around june. So disappointing =(

I was thinking the same thing, early next year as in "April". I suspect ANet will be working right up until the deadline for Wintersday, depending on what they wanted to add. Then add bug fixes up until the New Year. We still have Canthan New year in the middle of February(thats like 2 weeks away Anet time). I dont know what ANet has planned, but adding new content to CNY would be a nice segway into C:WoC and give the CNY that new event smell. Its alot to cram into a few months.
Personally, I would rather have Embark Beach and the Full Hero Party prior to full on C:WoC content. There will still be some people that need to finish factions, who could use Embark Beach. And a Full Hero Party will be a nice opportunity to test out hero team builds on what I expect to be WiK type mobs(HM anyone ).
As to what the "awesome" thing is, we know Melee AI has been discussed. I'm also thinking some sort of hero formation orders. Something like a panic "Spread Out!" button, that makes heros scatter would be helpful in addition to formation ability. To me, Control Features > AI upgrades. But, melee still needs some special love. Of course it would only make sense to upgrade Henchies as well, why even have them if they are going to become even more useless with a full hero party.
I vote for a quest where we go take a cra- uh I mean, fertalize the Sylvari Pale Tree. That way I can have some legacy lore relating to Sylvari in GW2.
EDIT: Stumme mentioned a Full Hero Party being feasable before the WiK Survey. That quote about it "not happening for years" was from the last person in charge.
